Elliot holds an MA in the History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art and a BA in Fashion History and Theory from Central Saint Martins. His work examines the relationships between visual and material culture and contemporaneous modes of thought in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He is particularly interested in how art and design registered and negotiated early modernism’s crises of self, time, and political belonging. His research has engaged with nineteenth-century crowd theory, phrenology and physiognomy, early psychoanalysis, and questions of subjecthood and being.
